Someone once called my work "refined primative".

As decendent of Neanderthal, I took no offense, but I still chuckle over those words . . they said them as a compliment. Who knows, maybe it's accurate.

You know I think that IS a good way of describing your work, it's kind of a cross between the Old Masters and..... well someone more free and earthy. :D

Really nice! I like the way you blended the lightmasses with the shadows. All the paintings you've studied were well worth it! It really shows in a model study like this.

Yeah, the old master studies are a time tested and true method for finding one's own mastery. But I also think, part of the journey is learning what kind of model an artist needs for their own alchemy, because in the end, we all tend to specialize.
